Dakin History
In 1874, a catastrophic fire in Lebanon brought heavy losses to the town and its citizens.
Less than two years later, Barron Dakin organized the Dakin Insurance Agency to provide
insurance protection against this type of devestating loss recurring in the future.
Harmon Dakin succeeded his father and in 1916, Harmon's son, Karl, joined the agency.
In the 1930s he renamed it, "The Karl D. Dakin Insurance Agency." Although there is no
Dakin family member associated with the agency today, we still honor the vision of
Barron Dakin and his family by continuing to use his name.
The main office of Dakin, in the early years, was located in the Masonic Building on
Broadway. In the early 1920s it moved to 20 East Mulberry Street. It remained there
until 1949, when it moved to its present location at 24 E. Mulberry Street in Lebanon.
From Barron Dakin's one-person, one-office agency to today's seven offices, 15+ member staff,
their goals remain the same -- to provide the insurance protection their customers need at
an affordable premium.
